Mid and South Essex Medicines Optimisation Committee (MSEMOC)
The Mid and South Essex Medicines Optimisation Committee (MSEMOC) establishes a collaborative strategy for ensuring the consistent high quality and cost effective use of medicines across the Mid and South Essex Health and Care Partnership (HCP).
The purpose of MSEMOC is to ensure robust and consistent decision making processes on new drugs, new uses of drugs and existing treatments commissioned by CCGs that are prescribed by provider Trust specialists, general practitioners or non-medical prescribers.
The committee provides a forum for clinical commissioners, GP providers, and NHS Trusts to consider issues of clinical and cost effectiveness, needs of the patient and population, local priorities and affordability in the use of drugs and novel approaches to therapy (where there is a drug component) in the prevention and management of disease
Core functions of the MSEMOC include:
- Development and maintenance of a joint formulary.
- Classification of medicines under the traffic light list.
- Development and approval of shared care guidelines.
- Development and approval of treatment pathways and prescribing guidelines
The MSEMOC membership includes representation from key partners, including clinical commissioners from the five CCGs, GP prescribing leads, local service providers (Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (EPUT), Integrated Care 24 (IC24), Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust (MSEFT), North East London NHS Foundation Trust (NELFT) and Provide), local authorities, North and South Essex Local Medical Committees (LMC) and Essex Local Pharmaceutical Committee (LPC). The chair of the MSEMOC is one of the medical directors from MSEFT.
